It's helpful to copy landscape drawings to learn how the textures of the foliage are created and the amount of detail that's necessary to make the impression you want.
Whittle's drawing is based on a photo (see below, from p12 of the book) but she didn't follow the photo exactly. However it still gives the feel of the woodland path without unnecessary detail... Except perhaps the path in the photo is a little more enclosed than in her drawing. It would be interesting to try again but draw directly from the photo to give my own impression.
